This is a plain-language description of how ihabhandles data today, published ahead of a final legal policy. It isn't a substitute for the policy that will ship at launch, but the commitments below are the ones we're designing around.

Local-first, and synced

Everything you enter is stored locally (IndexedDB) so the app works offline and your device always has a full, working copy. It's also synced to the hosted database the whole time you're using ihab — an account is required for everyone, precisely so your budget is always backed up, not just sometimes.

Email, only for your account

An account — just an email address and a password — is required to use ihab at all. That's what keeps trials honest and lets your budget stay synced and safe across every device you sign in on. Your email isn't used for anything else.

No bank credentials, ever

There is no bank linking in ihab, by design. We never ask for your bank username or password, so there's nothing of that kind to store, leak, or sell.

No ads, no trackers, no analytics on this site

This marketing site doesn't run advertising, tracking pixels, or analytics scripts.

This site remembers which headline you saw

To test different wording fairly (like the homepage headline, or the trial length shown to you), this site stores which variation you were shown in your browser's local storage — nothing is sent anywhere by the marketing site itself. If you open the app afterward, that tag rides along in the link so we can tell which wording led to sign-ups.

We don't sell data

There's no ad business here, and no data broker relationship — your budget is yours.

Delete anytime; export anytime

You can delete your data whenever you like — you're never locked in. Full export in YNAB's own CSV format is built in for every user, trial or Pro, so it never depends on an active subscription — the same door you came in through swings both ways. Pro additionally backs up automatically, in ihab's own richer format (multi-currency native amounts, scheduled transactions, loans), to your own iCloud Drive or Google Drive folder.
